Oral Proficiency Interview (OPI)

The OPI is a 15- to 30-minute live telephone conversation between the candidate and a certified 'tester', recorded. During the OPI, the candidate will be asked about their interests, work experience and other familiar topics. The candidate will also be asked to participate in a role-playing situation.
Candidates are assessed on their ability to speak the target language in standard form without using other languages or slang. The candidate's overall oral communication ability in the target language is the only thing that is assessed, not the content of the candidate's answers, responses or opinions.
