Reading Proficiency Test (RPT)

The Reading Proficiency Test (RPT) is a standardized test that assesses reading ability in a language. The RPT measures a person's reading comprehension, without the use of a dictionary or grammar material, when presented with texts and tasks as described in the ACTFL Proficiency Guidelines 2012—Reading. The reading texts and multiple-choice questions are presented in the target language. Designed by testing experts, the RPTs are carefully constructed tests that assess reading proficiency levels from Novice to Superior. Typically, the tests are administered to assess a specific range from Novice Low to Intermediate Mid, from Intermediate Mid to Advanced Mid, and from Advanced Low to Superior, although other versions are available. The tests are customized to assess the range of proficiency requested by the client, with administration times ranging from 50 to 125 minutes.
