Oral Proficiency Interview with Computer (OPIc)

The OPIc is a 20- to 40-minute speaking test designed to collect speech samples through computer-recorded and manipulated speech questions, delivered over the internet or by telephone. Completed tests are stored digitally and evaluated by ACTFL-certified examiners.
In the computer version, each test is personalized by selecting tasks in subject areas that match the candidate’s language ability, work experience, educational background and interests via a Self-Assessment Survey. In the mobile version, the tests are administered in a fixed format. Candidates will be assessed on their ability to speak the target language in a standard form without using other languages or slang. The candidate’s overall oral communication ability in the target language is the only skill assessed, regardless of the content of the candidate’s answers, feedback or opinions.
